USA: Aker Solutions to Supply Umbilicals for Murphy’s Dalmatian Field
Aker Solutions has been selected to supply two production control umbilicals and three umbilical termination assemblies (UTAs) to Murphy Exploration & Production Company – USA. The products will be delivered to the Murphy operated Dalmatian field in the De Soto Canyon located in the Gulf of Mexico which is jointly owned by Murphy and Ecopetrol America Inc. Contract value is undisclosed.
Aker Solutions has been selected to supply two production control umbilicals and three umbilical termination assemblies (UTAs) to Murphy Exploration & Production Company – USA. The main control and injection umbilical will tie the host facility to Murphy’s De Soto Canyon Block 4 well for a distance of 21 miles (34 km). The second umbilical is an infield umbilical that will connect two blocks 5 miles (8 km) apart. The umbilicals will be used in water depths of approximately 6 000 feet (1 800 metres). Installation is planned for the fourth quarter of 2013.
“Aker Solutions is excited to work with Murphy on this project. We have a strong track-record in the Gulf of Mexico and look forward to executing this contract,” says Marc Quenneville, head of Aker Solutions’ umbilicals business in North America.
Engineering, project management, and manufacturing of the umbilicals will take place at Aker Solutions’ state-of-the-art umbilicals facility in Mobile, Alabama. Engineering for the subsea UTAs will take place at Aker Solutions’ Houston office while manufacturing will take place in Mobile.
Opened in 2003, Aker Solutions’ umbilical manufacturing facility in Mobile is strategically located to serve the Gulf of Mexico and global markets. The facility, with its high capacity horizontal cabler, is specially designed to meet the challenges of demanding deepwater applications.
Subsea umbilicals are deployed on the seabed to supply necessary controls and chemicals to subsea oil and gas wells, subsea manifolds and any subsea system requiring a remote control.
Over the past 15 years Aker Solutions has delivered more than 400 umbilicals to some of the world’s most challenging fields, from harsh environment to ultra-deep, high-pressure water conditions.

Fincantieri, NLI to Offer New Solutions to Offshore Industry (Norway)
The shipbuilding giant Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.A. and NLI, a Norwegian total supplier to oil & gas business, announce today the signing of a collaboration agreement, supporting the aim to penetrating the Mobile Drilling Units construction market.
This agreement includes the development of an innovative high quality drilling tower. For NLI the partnership is a milestone. In 1974 they delivered the first derrick to the Norwegian offshore industry. Most recently they have developed a drill tower solution new to the global market. With this Italian-Norwegian partnership NLI sees a great opportunity to reach out with their innovative solutions.
From now on the parties will include each other when approaching the market and present their projects to the various contractors and operators / oil companies.
The agreement follows the recent creation of the new Fincantieri Offshore Business Unit, dedicated to the commercialization and production of high valued offshore vessels such as Drill ships, Semisubmersibles Drilling Rigs, Pipe Layers, Construction Vessels and Non Standard Supply Vessels.
The Fincantieri Offshore value proposition is based on the offer of new generation turn-key vessels, tailor made to meet specific client requirements.

Norway: Aker Solutions Secures Draupne FEED Contract
Aker Solutions has won a contract from Det norske oljeselskap to conduct a front-end, engineering and design (FEED) study for the Draupne field on the Norwegian continental shelf.
The study will be carried out by Aker Solutions’ newly established engineering office in London, and delivered to the license partners in Q4 2012. The contract value is undisclosed.
“I am very pleased that Det norske has decided to follow on the pre-FEED contract with the award of the topsides FEED contract for the Draupne development. The Draupne pre-FEED was the first contract awarded to the re-established Aker Solutions engineering entity in London. The new award confirms the successful build-up of our London office,” says Valborg Lundegaard, executive vice president and head of engineering in Aker Solutions.
London
Aker Solutions in 2011 decided to re-enter the London engineering market. Only a few months after opening the new office in Chiswick Park, the company is once again becoming a significant player in the London market. The engineering office now counts 90 employees, and Aker Solutions expects to be around 200 people by the end of 2012.
Draupne
The Draupne field is located to the west of Stavanger in the North Sea. The partners in the Draupne field have agreed with the partners in the Luno field on a coordinated development solution for the area. Draupne will be developed using a fixed platform with pre-processing, and the well stream will be transported from the Draupne platform to Luno for final processing and export to the markets.
Det norske is the operator and owner of 35 per cent of the Draupne license, together with Statoil (50 per cent) and Bayerngas Norge (15 per cent).

UK: Wellbore Clean Up Specialist Eyes Turnover Increase
Aberdeen-based oilfield services firm Coretrax Technology Limited has secured over £1.2million of contracts since the start of the year and expanded its team to 12 people.
Coretrax specialises in innovative oilfield services to the completion, cementing, abandonment and wellbore clean up sectors both in the North Sea and globally. The contract wins are for projects in the North Sea utilising Coretrax’s innovative wellbore clean up tools and chemicals.
The team in Aberdeen has also expanded with the appointment of a new business development manager and offshore supervisor both bringing many years of oil industry experience to the company. Coretrax plans to recruit a further 6-8 new staff in 2012 including a second graduate in design engineering.
Kenny Murray, director and founder of Coretrax, said: “We have had a really promising start to the year and I’m delighted with the new members who have joined the Coretrax team. Our focus this year is continual R&D to expand our range of products and services to provide solutions to operators with our team of engineers globally.
“Our innovative approach to wellbore clean up has also led to successful projects globally and we are completing successful contracts in Africa, Middle East and Asia. We will continue to expand both internationally and in the North Sea with on-going recruitment and new premises this year.”
Formed in 2008, Coretrax is a finalist in the ‘new idea’ category of SPE’s Offshore Achievement Awards taking place in Aberdeen this month. The company forecasts a turnover of £3million this year.

Ghana: Aker Solutions Signs Well Service Contract with Tullow
Aker Solutions has signed a frame agreement with Tullow Ghana Limited to provide well intervention services for the oil company’s Jubilee and Tano deepwater fields offshore Ghana, West Africa.
The initial contract period is for three years, with two additional one-year options (3+1+1). Aker Solutions estimates that the agreement will generate annual revenues of approximately USD 4 million.
Under the agreement Aker Solutions will provide slickline and coiled tubing equipment and services, which are conducted with the objective of maximising production of oil and gas. Aker Solutions has delivered well services to Tullow’s Jubilee field since 2008.
“Tullow is the largest independent oil and gas exploration and production company operating offshore West Africa. We are pleased to be able to support their ambitious growth plans through providing our technologies and services to increase oil recovery ratios,” says Wolfgang Puennel, head of well intervention services in Aker Solutions.
“Ghana is an up-and-coming oil nation. This new and extended contract with Tullow provides us with a solid long term outlook for our operations there. We will utilise this to set up a more permanent presence in Ghana, which will also drive the need for a larger local workforce. This will put us in a better position to secure further oil service work in the country,” adds Puennel.
Aker Solutions’ contract party is Aker Qserv Ltd.

Norway: Aker Solutions Delivers Subsea Templates for Skuld Fast-Track Development
This week, two of the three subsea templates for Statoil’s Skuld fast-track development was shipped out of Aker Solutions’ yard in Egersund, Norway.
The two identical templates are being delivered on budget and on time, in line with Statoil’s standardization objectives to reduce cost levels as well as risk and time in execution of the project. The third and final template is scheduled for delivery in the second quarter.
The two templates are destined for the Fossekall field, which together with the Dompap field is the Skuld development. Skuld is located north of the Norne field, approximately 200 kilometres west of Sandessjøen, Norway, in 360 metres water depth.

Norway: Aker Solutions to Supply Production Equipment for Brynhild Project
Aker Solutions has signed a contract with Lundin for the engineering, procurement and construction of a subsea production system for the Brynhild project on the Norwegian continental shelf. The contract value is approximately NOK 700 million (USD 123 Million).
The scope of work includes one template-manifold structure, one riser base, three subsea trees, three wellhead systems, control system, a tie-in system, 38 kilometres of umbilicals, HP riser and rental tooling. The contract contains several options for additional equipment, including other field developments.
The Brynhild field is located north-west of the Ula field and 38 kilometres east of the Pierce field. The water depth is approximately 80 meters. Brynhild will be developed as a fast track subsea tie-back to the Pierce FPSO.
“We are very pleased to be awarded this first subsea production system contract with Lundin. This contract allows us to utilise the total strength of our subsea offering and work closely with this important customer”, says Alan Brunnen, EVP Subsea within Aker Solutions.
Management, engineering and procurement of the subsea production system will be primarily performed at Aker Solutions’ headquarters in Oslo, Norway. Fabrication of the subsea trees will be completed at Aker Solutions’ manufacturing centre in Tranby, Norway and production of the template-manifolds will be carried out at the company’s fabrication yard in Egersund, Norway. The umbilical will be manufactured in Moss, Norway and the control and wellhead systems will be delivered out of Aberdeen, UK. Installation and commissioning will be handled by Aker Solution’s service base in Aagotnes, Norway. Final deliveries will be made in Q2 2013.
The contract has been signed and booked as order intake in Q3 2011. The contract party is Aker Subsea AS.

Norway-based Aker Solutions Increases its Middle East Presence with X3M Acquisition
Aker Solutions has signed an agreement to acquire the well intervention technology business from X3M (pronounced “Extreme”) International. The acquisition will grow Aker Solutions’ well intervention technology and service portfolio worldwide as well as increase the company’s presence in the important Middle East market.
X3M is an international niche provider of down-hole intervention service tools and technology products. Its core products are innovative down-hole tools like plugs, packers, hangers, valves and a complete range of setting and recovery tools.
Well intervention services are operations carried out in an oil or gas well, with the objective of maximising production and increasing the recovery rate of oil and gas.
“Today we are buying plug products and hiring the plug-setting services from third parties. Through this acquisition we will expand our product portfolio and be able to offer our customers a more complete – and thereby more competitive – service offering,” says Wolfgang Puennel, head of well intervention services in Aker Solutions.
X3M has a solid portfolio of proprietary technologies. The plugs and packers for HPHT (high pressure-high temperature) and sour gas, have a potential to capture a significant market share in the coming years. The tools have been used successfully in gas wells with extremely high concentrations of H2S and CO2. X3M is also developing a new metal to metal seal technology that could prove to be a future industry game-changer in certain areas.
“We are acquiring an exciting product portfolio. However, we are planning to invest to rapidly expand and further improve on our technology position within this segment,” says Puennel.
X3M is well established in the Middle East, with operations in Oman Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. Aker Solutions already has well service set-ups in Saudi-Arabia and Oman, which will merge its operations with X3M’s. X3M also has a design engineering team based in Narvik, Norway. The research and development (R&D) set-up in Narvik will not only support X3M’s activities but also strengthen Aker Solutions’ existing R&D function within wireline tractors and application tools.
“Today Aker Solutions is a major provider of well intervention services in the British and Norwegian sectors of the North Sea. However, we have the potential to grow our business significantly by introducing X3M’s plug products to our service portfolio in the North Sea. Equally, we will seek to capitalise on X3M’s position in the Middle East to gain a stronger foothold there. All in all this acquisition offers a complementary technological and geographical footprint,” says Puennel.
Aker Solutions is acquiring the well intervention technology business from X3M International, whose main owners are the Middle East-based Catalyst Private Equity Fund and X3M’s original founders. Transaction value is approximately USD 8 million. X3M had operating revenues of USD 6 million in 2010. The transaction is expected to be completed early November 2011.
