Tidewater Buys Three PSVs Under Construction at STX OSV (Norway)

STX OSV Holdings Limited (“STX OSV”), one of the major global designers and shipbuilders of offshore and specialized vessels, announced that Tidewater Inc. (“Tidewater”) has acquired contracts for three Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) under construction at STX OSV in Norway.

STX OSV had originally secured the contracts for the design and construction of three vessels for STX Pan Ocean Co. Ltd. in 2010, and Tidewater has now entered into an assignment agreement with STX Pan Ocean to take over these contracts. The first vessel in the series will be delivered to Tidewater during 1Q 2013. Deliveries of the next two vessels are scheduled for Q2 and Q3 2013.

Mr. Roy Reite, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of STX OSV, said, “STX OSV has in the past delivered ten offshore vessels to Tidewater. We are delighted to welcome Tidewater back to us as a client, and we look forward to cooperating with their team again.”

The vessels are of STX OSV PSV 09 design, developed by STX OSV Design in Ålesund, Norway. The overall length of the vessels is 87.9 meters, with a beam of 19 meters. The hulls are built at STX OSV Tulcea in Romania. Two vessels will be delivered from STX OSV Søviknes, the third from STX OSV Aukra in Norway.

Solstad, Ocean Installer Order Subsea Construction Vessel from STX OSV (Norway)

STX OSV Holdings Limited (“STX OSV”), one of the major global designers and shipbuilders of offshore and specialized vessels,  has received an order for the design and construction of a large, advanced Offshore Subsea Construction Vessel (OSCV) for Ocean Installer and Solstad Offshore.

The contract value amounts to approximately NOK 1.4 billion. Ocean Installer and Solstad will have joint ownership of the vessel, which is to be operated by Ocean Installer. The vessel is scheduled for delivery from STX OSV in Norway in 2Q  2014. The hull will be delivered from STX OSV in Romania. The contract is subject to board approval by the Norwegian Guarantee Institute for Export Credits (GIEK), expected to be received on or around 20 June 2012.

The vessel, of type OSCV 06L, has been designed by STX OSV and Solstad in close cooperation with Ocean Installer, and is highly advanced in terms of station keeping, efficiency and operational performance. The vessel is designed to operate efficiently under demanding conditions and is well fitted for SURF (Subsea,Umbilicals, Risers, Flowlines) operations.

The vessel is 156.7 meters long, 27 meters wide and has an aft cargo deck area of 2,100 m2. She will be equipped with a 150 t Vertical Lay System (VLS) and a 3,000 t below deck carousel, Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) in hangars launched through moonpools, and two AHC offshore cranes (400 t and 100 t) which both can operate down to depths of 3,000 meters. The accommodation facilities will have a capacity of 140 persons. The vessel is designed according to the latest environmental standards with focus on low fuel consumption.

UK: Rolls-Royce Equipment for Iceman AHTS

Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has been awarded a £15 million contract by STX OSV to supply an extensive deck equipment package for an advanced anchor handling vessel to be operated by Iceman AS.

The package, which is designed to improve operational safety, will include a new anchor handling frame (AHF) and a hydraulic anchor winch, which is capable of pulling 500 tonnes. It will also feature anchor handling cranes and systems to ensure controlled management of wires and chains when pulling heavy loads.

Arne Tande, Rolls-Royce, Senior Vice President – Offshore Deck Machinery said: “This latest contract cements Rolls-Royce’s position as the market leader in anchor handling equipment. We supply world leading technology which enables safer and more efficient operations in deep water oil fields.”

As the exploration and production for oil and gas moves towards deeper waters, mooring lines become heavier, more difficult and more hazardous to handle. The new AHF is designed to reduce the handling forces and wire tension during anchor deployment and retrieval operations, while also minimizing the human exposure to hazardous operating conditions. The AHF is mounted at the stern of the vessel to ease the deployment and recovery of anchors. It makes it simpler to deck the anchor with correct orientation and without repeated efforts or assistance from other vessels.

Norway: STX OSV Strengthens Specialist Technology with New Acquisitions

STX OSV Holdings Limited (“STX OSV”), one of the major global designers and shipbuilders of offshore and specialized vessels, announces that it is strengthening its technology and engineering competence through two separate transactions.

Seaonics AS (“Seaonics”), a subsidiary of STX OSV, is in the process of acquiring a shareholding interest in Castor Drilling Solution AS (“CDS”). Based in Kristiansand, Norway, CDS is a newly established company with specialist competence in offshore drilling technology.

The investment is expected to give STX OSV new insight into this segment of the offshore market, and give opportunities for development of integrated solutions primarily related to the growing market of Offshore Subsea Construction Vessels (“OSCV”). The investment, to be completed in two tranches by the end of the year, will give Seaonics a 34% stake in CDS.

Separately, STX OSV has entered into an agreement to acquire 70% shareholding interest in Brevik Partners AS (“Brevik Partners”). Established in 2010, Brevik Partners is an engineering company specializing in offshore technology and equipment. The investment in the company, to be renamed STX OSV Engineering Brevik, is expected to strengthen STX OSV’s ability to develop new concepts and integrated solutions for offshore and specialized vessels. The proposed transaction is expected to be closed by the end of May.

Both investments are in line with STX OSV’s strategy of increasing its technology and engineering competence in select parts of the offshore value chain. Through focused investments, STX OSV aims to strengthen its ability to develop and introduce vessels equipped with cutting-edge innovation and technology.

India: Cochin Shipyard Delivers PSV to Norwegian Owner

Cochin Shipyard recently delivered a Platform Supply Vessel “Brage Trader” to M/s Brage Supplier K S, Norway. This is the fourth of a series of the high technology offshore vessel that have been constructed and delivered by CSL this financial year.

The vessel is of PSV 09 CD type designed by STX OSV Norway and are classed under the Rules and Regulations of Det Norske Veritas and is flagged under the Norwegian regulations. The 88 x 19 Meter vessel is a high end Diesel Electric PSV with by 4 Nos 1665 KW Diesel gen. sets and 2 Nos 2200 KW contra rotating propellers. The vessel with Grade II Dynamic Positioning features has been assigned the ‘CLEAN’ design notation by DNV signifying the highest levels of environmental compliance.

The vessel with accommodation for 42 persons also meets the requirements of COMF class signifying high comfort levels due to special arrangements to attain very low levels of noise and vibration. The vessel has special stainless steel tanks with Nitrogen inerting arrangements to carry low flash liquids and is capable of all other normal offshore supply operations.

Brage Trader PSV will be operated by Simon Møkster Shipping AS from Norway.

Norway: Naming Ceremony for Olympic Energy PSV

Last Saturday, on March 24th, a naming ceremony for Olympic Shipping’s new Platform Supply Vessel took place in Ålesund. The naming of the vessel, now called Olympic Energy was performed by Godmother Marianne Synnes.

After the ceremony, the ship was open to the public and about 1500 people used the chance to study the ship up close.

Olympic Shipping AS, STX OSV and the Training Office of Maritime Studies were represented at the deck, where those who were interested could get further information about the ship and job opportunities in the business.  Olympic Energy is a PSV 06 LNG design, to be delivered from STX OSV, later this month. The vessel is designed as a platform supply vessel for worldwide operations and transport of general cargo for offshore industry.

The vessel is of environmental friendly design, with low resistance hull shape designed for high speed and low fuel consumptions. Its main engines are driven by liquefied natural gas.

STX OSV Adds to their Backlog, DOF ASA Sends Newbuild Order for Subsea Construction Vessel

In their second contract announcement so far today, Norway-based STX OSV adds to their offshore vessel newbuild orderbook with a NOK 650 million contract for the design and construction of an Offshore Subsea Construction Vessel (“OSCV”) for Norway-based offshore vessel owner, DOF ASA.

The vessel is of OSCV 11 design, developed by STX OSV in Ålesund, Norway. It will be designed with the new innovative moon pool concept from STX OSV.

STX OSV Design has together with Marintek and DOF Management just completed an extensive research program supported by the Norwegian Research Council, focusing on safe design and operation of moon pools. The results of the three years’ R&D program have been incorporated into the new moon pool design for the OSCV.  Compared to vessels with conventional moon pool design, the vessel can operate in a wider range of weather conditions in a safer manner for the vessel’s crew and equipment.

The overall length of the vessel will be approximately 121 meters with a beam of 22 meters. It will be equipped with one 250 ton offshore crane and two ROV systems. The vessel will have accommodation for 100 persons.

Delivery is scheduled from STX OSV Søviknes in Norway in 2Q 2013. The hull of the vessel will be delivered from STX OSV Tulcea in Romania.

Norway: STX OSV Brevik Shipyard Hands Over PSV Island Captain

On Thursday the 16th of February, Island Offshore (IO) took delivery of the MV Island Captain, the newest addition the growing IO fleet. The godmother for the vessel is Mrs. Tonje Tiley from ConocoPhillips.

The MV Island Captain’s sister vessel, the MV Island Centurion was delivered in October 2011. The two vessels are number 5 and 6 in the series of UT 776 CD design vessels built at STX OSV Brevik.

The two vessels will commence a 7 year firm contract plus options with Schlumberger as well stimulation vessels in 2013, and will undertake a major mobilization prior to this. Island Patriot and Island Commander are currently engaged as well stimulation vessels.
