America’s Crisis of Character :: Is something more required to ‘Make America Great Again’?

Submitted by: SL @SLandinSoCal

The MSM continues to disgust me. The MAJORITY of people affected by the disaster in Texas have NOT complained. They have been thankful and even smiling. Yet as I watch MSM, I see them repeatedly playing clips of 3 ungrateful women complaining about the conditions at the George R Brown shelter. ‘It stinks in here’, ‘I didn’t have a cot for me or my kids last night’, ‘the mayor said we didn’t have to evacuate, but he LIED’.

These people disgust me, but MSM disgusts me even more. As they have covered this catastrophic event, most likely the biggest disaster our country has experienced, they have made every attempt to politicize it and criticize the response. A challenging thing, since the response has been amazing.

The impact of this disaster is FAR greater than that of Katrina but there are very DRAMATIC contrasts both in handling the response/rescue and in the reaction of the victims.

I would love to see someone put together a video that highlights some of these differences because I think it reveals both a core strength and a core weakness that exists in our country.

The issue is that of PERSONAL CHARACTER! I believe that the majority of Americans have good character, if not great character, but there is a subset of Americans who lack good character and some who have a very poor character. My concern is that America is facing a CRISIS OF CHARACTER!

When you see neighbor helping neighbor, gratefulness in times of crisis, respect for others & others property which includes cleanliness so you don’t leave a mess for someone else, these are the results of GOOD CHARACTER.

When you see people taking advantage of others by looting, or lack of respect for others in they way they talk or by vandalizing property or leaving a mess for others to clean up, when you see ungratefulness, people expecting others to do something for them but not being willing to help others, you are seeing the results of POOR CHARACTER.

The character of the people of our country is being undermined. Good character development is no longer being taught, exampled or encourage for many. We see dramatic displays of deplorable character in the Alt Left groups of BLM and ANTIFA. They have no respect for for their fellow man. They have many negative character traits. To make matters worse, many including MSM and prominent politicians are condoning and encouraging that character. There is no positive future for a society built on poor character.

If we are truly going to “Make America Great Again”, it will take more than jobs, tax cuts and a thriving economy. It will require programs and commitment to teach and build GOOD CHARACTER in the people of our country. Each of us should strive to build the elements of good character within ourselves everyday and also to encourage others to strive for those characters within themselves.

Finland: Wartsila to Provide Propulsion for Harvey’s New LNG OSVs

Finland-based Wärtsilä, the marine industry’s leading gas solutions provider, has been awarded a contract to deliver an integrated propulsion system for two additional LNG offshore support vessels (OSV) to Harvey Gulf International Marine.

The order, placed last week,  takes Harvey Gulf to a fleet of four LNG OSVs on order, establishing the company as the world’s second largest operator of LNG powered OSVs. Wärtsilä will deliver an integrated system that includes the dual-fuel machinery, electrical and automation package, complete propulsion, and also the LNG fuel storage and gas conditioning system. The LNG storage capacity provides for more than a week of vessel operational time.

Harvey Gulf CEO Shane J. Guidry, says, “Harvey Gulf’s decision to become the leader in Clean Gulf of Mexico operations has been enthusiastically accepted by oil company executives, and was the impetus for adding two additional LNG dual-fuel vessels to the fleet. These vessels, like their two sisterships, will meet the highest emission standards that exist today – and even higher standards that haven’t been created yet. We recognize the strong stance on environmental protection by the administration in the wake of the oil spill, and are doing our part to respond to it and provide our customers support for their environmental commitments.”

“Harvey Gulf’s original order of complete integrated solutions from Wärtsilä has facilitated the development of an excellent working relationship between Harvey Gulf, STX USA Marine, Trinity Offshore and Wärtsilä. The challenges of bringing a new technology to the US market are being met effectively, and this strong teamwork between suppliers will ensure that Harvey Gulf is delivered state-of-the-art vessels that provide clean, safe, efficient, reliable and competitive operations. This order for two additional LNG powered vessels further demonstrates that Harvey Gulf is an industry leader and that the move to LNG as a marine fuel in the US has begun,” states Pete Jacobs, Business Development Manager, Offshore at Wärtsilä North America.

“We are witnessing a true paradigm change, and it’s a very exciting time for LNG fuelled vessels in the Gulf of Mexico. Millennia ago the shift was oar to sail, two centuries ago it was sail to steam, a century ago steam to diesel, and now it’s a new era for gas. We are pleased to continue as a partner with Harvey Gulf as they reaffirm their commitment by adding more safe and clean LNG fuelled vessels to their modern fleet,” adds John Hatley, Vice President Ship Power, Wärtsilä North America.

Harvey Gulf International Marine ordered two additional 302’ X 64’, Dual Fuel Offshore Supply Vessels, bringing its total order to four.

The contract signed today with Trinity Offshore is a follow on to the first two vessel order placed in October of 2011. Trinity will build all four vessels at their Gulfport, MS shipyard where the first Harvey Gulf LNG Powered Vessel hull fabrication was started last week.

In addition to being powered by cleaner burning natural gas, the vessels will achieve “ENVIRO+, Green Passport” Certification by the American Bureau of Shipping. The requirements for this certification include, among others, that the vessels be continuously manned with a certified Environmental Officer, be completely constructed with certified environmentally friendly materials, and have advanced alarms for fuel tanks and containment systems. Along with Harvey Gulf’s other vessels under construction, these will be the first OSV’s to achieve this certification, making them the most environmental friendly OSV’s in Gulf of Mexico.

Harvey Gulf CEO Shane J. Guidry announced the signing: “Harvey Gulf’s decision to become the leader in “Clean” Gulf of Mexico operations has been enthusiastically accepted by oil company executives and was the impetus for adding two additional LNG Dual Fuel vessels to the fleet. These vessels, like their two sisterships, will meet the highest emissions standards that exist today and even higher standards that haven’t been created yet. We recognize the strong stance on environmental protection by the administration in the wake of the oil spill and are doing our part to respond to it and provide our customers support for their environmental commitments.

John Dane III, Trinity’s President and CEO, stated “This follow on order is a significant milestone for our shipyard and will increase employment by hundreds at its peak during the next 36 months.”
